Munich Brauhaus and The Bavarian celebrate biggest Oktoberfest yet
Wednesday, 14 August 2019: Munich Brauhaus and The Bavarian are throwing their biggest and best Oktoberfest bash yet, with six weeks of unforgettable parties, traditional feasting and a line-up of
fun-for-all activities from Saturday, 21 September to Sunday, 27 October.
The opening weekend kicks off at Munich Brauhaus restaurants in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne on Saturday, 21 September with a brightly-coloured street party at each location. There will be a ceremonial tapping of the first Oktoberfest beer keg at 1pm, followed by a lively parade featuring colourful performers, costumed entertainers and traditional live music.
Hungry lunch-time diners can choose between two, fantastic Oktoberfest set menus, which are available in addition to a-la-carte options, and on offer at all Bavarian restaurants throughout the celebrations.
The OktoberBoss menu ($79pp) features three delicious courses of signature Bavarian dishes, a 1-litre stein of beer and a schnapps shot, and includes a limited-edition OktoberBoss showbag valued at over $160. The canvas bag is filled to the brim with fun gifts and prizes, including a mini stein, restaurant vouchers, discounts and freebies, playing cards, an OktoberBoss t-shirt, a bottle opener and other surprises. This menu is available at all three Munich Brauhaus restaurants and all 30 The Bavarian restaurants across the country.
Another set menu features dishes that have been created exclusively for Oktoberfest. The three-course menu ($45pp) features a shredded sausage salad, known as wursalat, with pickled cucumber, onions and Swiss cheese; tafel spitz, which is a dish of corned beef brisket with new potatoes, horseradish veloute, sauerkraut and minced apple; and kaiserschmarrn, a dessert of smashed pancake drizzled with butterscotch and almonds. This menu is available throughout Oktoberfest and available at all three Munich Brauhaus restaurants.
At 2pm on opening day guests can battle it out for the title of sausage eating champion and a $200 bar voucher by demolishing the most sausages in under one minute. The fun continues at 4pm with on-stage Oktoberfest challenges such as stein holding, nail hammering and yodelling. Diners are encouraged to dress in their finest lederhosen or dirndl, for the chance to win a $200 restaurant voucher in the Best Dressed of Oktoberfest competition. A second round of entertainment will take place on Sunday, 22 September.
An Oktoberfest beer tent will pop up at Munich Brauhaus in Sydney on opening day, featuring the restaurant’s signature communal dining tables, so parade-goers can eat, drink and prost to an al-fresco Oktoberfest.
Throughout the six weeks of Oktoberfest, all Munich Brauhaus restaurants will host a line-up of themed
dress-up parties, from 6pm each Saturday. There will be games, challenges and live music.
Saturday, 28 September: Chicken dance party (come prepared knowing all the chicken dance moves).
Saturday, 5 October: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Steins party (capes, wands and other costumes).
Saturday, 12 October: Brother’s Grimm party (goblins, ghouls and famous, fairy tale characters).
Saturday, 19 October: Oktober-football-fest party (favourite World Cup rugby jerseys).
All 30 The Bavarian restaurants will join Munich Brauhaus in pouring four, famous Oktoberfestbiers on offer throughout the festival: Hofbräu München, Löwenbräu, Spaten and Paulaner. Each of these have been imported from Bavaria and are available on tap until stocks last. Pirate Life Fiestbier and 4 Pines Kellar Door Schwartzbier have been brewed exclusively for Munich Brauhaus and The Bavarian’s Oktoberfest celebrations, and will be also be on offer until stocks last.
Guests can end Oktoberfest on a high, with one final party taking place at Munich Brauhaus in each state on Saturday, 26 October, from 6pm. Guests will then have their last chance to revel in Oktoberfest food and beers on Sunday, 27 October.
