Saké Jr debuts at St Collins Lane with 700 free meals
Neil Perry collaborates with Saké Jr team on new menu items
Tuesday, 13 December 2016:
Rockpool Dining Group will launch Saké Jr at St Collins Lane on Friday, 16 December, giving away 500 Japanese-inspired bowls, including quick ‘grab & go’ salads and poke, to the first customers in line when it opens at 11am.
The giveaway continues on Monday, 19 December when the first 100 customers will receive complimentary Japanese Fried Chicken from 6pm, and on Tuesday when there will be 100 free bowls of noodles from 6pm.
Building on the success of its signature build-your-own bowls, Saké Jr will debut a range of delicious new dishes and grab & go items by Rockpool Dining Group Head of Culinary Neil Perry AM, in collaboration with Saké Jr chefs, at The Aviary dining precinct at St Collins Lane shopping centre.
Drawing inspiration from a recent trip to Japan, Neil has worked with Saké Jr chefs to add exciting new lunch-time creations, including grab & go sashimi salads, noodle salads and poke. A new dinner menu features Japanese Fried Chicken, or JFC, with a choice of three dressings; a selection of bao buns; and abura, or oil noodles, featuring a choice of pork, chicken or tofu with either ramen or udon noodles and topped with pickled bamboo, spring onions, nori wakame, soft cooked egg and shirazu.
The new dinner items pair well with Urban Craft Brewing Co’s Japanese-style craft beers, which are served on tap at the St Collins Lane venue, helping late afternoon and evening shoppers and the after-work crowd to kick back with a leisurely bite to eat and craft brew. House wines and saké by the glass are also available.
“Our crispy JFC is delicious and comes with a choice of sesame yuzu mayo, hot sauce, or gochujang dressing, and my personal recommendation that it’s washed down with a cold, craft beer,” Neil said.
“Abura is a cult dish in Tokyo at the moment. It’s a soupless, oil noodle dish, so perfect for our summer and really delicious. A bowl of this, with a couple of beers, is great dinner combination.”
The new dishes complement Saké Jr’s build-your-own bowls of vibrant Japanese flavours. Customers build their bowl by selecting a base of rice, noodles, or mixed green leaves and shredded cabbage, topping it with their choice of meat or tofu, then adding steamed, roasted or grilled vegetables, sauces, pickles, toppings and condiments – creating a truly customised nourishing bowl.
Customers must like or follow Saké Jr on Facebook or Instagram to receive a complimentary bowl on launch day.
Customers who order for pick-up via the Saké Jr App will receive their 10th bowl free. Delivery and catering packages are available via Deliveroo.
Saké Jr has quickly built a cult-like following at its first three locations: 555 Bourke Street in Melbourne, and Westfield shopping centre and Grosvenor Place piazza in Sydney.
Rockpool Dining Group plans to expand the Saké Jr brand nationally over the next five years.
