The Bavarian debuts in Canberra with 500 free hotdogs on launch day
Tuesday, 2 April 2019: The Bavarian will open its doors at Westfield Woden in Canberra’s south-eastern suburb of Phillip on Thursday, 18 April, with 500 free hotdogs distributed from 11am.
Located on the ground floor of the new Bradley Street restaurant precinct, The Bavarian Woden accommodates 300 guests, including 60 seats outdoors.
Canberra residents, shoppers and cinema-goers will experience a true taste of Bavarian hospitality, from cultural hints in the interior décor, to quintessential dishes and a range of international and local beers.
The family-friendly menu offers something for everyone, including traditional Bavarian favourites, such as The Bavarian’s legendary crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly, a range of classic German and gourmet sausages, shared platters, and an assortment of schnitzels. Lighter bites include chicken wings, spicy squid and build-your-own salads from a checklist of fresh ingredients.
The Bavarian Woden launches with two fantastic meat platters, each designed to share between two people. A BBQ platter ($35 per person) comprises of meaty pork ribs, spiced pulled pork, smoked pork belly, corn on the cob, soft pretzel buns and is served with cabbage slaw and pickles.
Affordable dinner specials are a weekday winner. On Mondays it’s a chicken burger and drink of choice ($15), a two-for-one deal on any regular schnitzel on Tuesdays and refillable All You Can Meat platters ($35 per person) every Wednesday. On Sunday the focus is on families, with children under the age of 12 eating for free from the kids’ menu with a paying adult.
A generous happy hour runs from 4pm to 6pm every day with $5 beer, wine and spirits and $1 chicken wings.
The menu is complemented by 20 beers on tap, including imported Bavarian favourites Lowenbrau, Franziskaner, Stiegl and Hofbrau. An iconic range of Australian and international craft brews join the line-up of German beers, including 4 Pines and Pirate Life, Goose Island, Budweiser and Stella Artois.
The Bavarian Woden is Rockpool Dining Group’s 28th Bavarian restaurant in Australia and first restaurant in the Australian Capital Territory.
Rockpool Dining Group Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash said he was thrilled to be expanding the Group’s footprint to the ACT and bringing The Bavarian to Westfield Woden.
“Our Bavarian restaurants have a large and loyal following across the country and we’re thrilled to be bringing our first daily-deal packed destination to another state,” Mr Pash said.
“We have created 45 full-time and casual positions and supported the local economy by engaging around 50 professionals and tradespeople on the project and we look forward to getting to know the local community.”
The Bavarian Woden is a contemporary, casual restaurant with design features that reflect its Bavarian heritage, including stone walls, alpine finishes and large, communal wood tables.
Signature details include a custom-designed, vintage beer barrel wall, bespoke signage, festoon lighting and an impressive beer stein chandelier holding over 500 glass steins suspended above the bar.
Green plants and ivy garlands adorn the interior. Hanging baskets scattered throughout the restaurant add a splash of colour, while round, timber planter boxes mounted to the walls create a fresh feel.
A long, black bevelled and timber bar is positioned against a natural stone wall backdrop. An open dining area features The Bavarian’s signature communal dining tables, and is an ideal space for hosting functions and events.
An ivy-strewn, al-fresco dining area is positioned at the entrance of the restaurant and provides seating for up to 60 guests. Beer barrel tables, with high stool seating, are situated next to an enclosed garden which is filled with lush green plants. Several large-screen TVs throughout the venue offer an exciting schedule of live sports games.
