Das Brunch is coming to Munich Brauhaus A monthly brunch series of food stations, feasting and fizz
Tuesday, 5 March 2020: Could this be Sydney’s best hundeharre (hair of the dog) destination? A Bavarian-inspired bier hall, with a monthly, all-you-can-eat, mega-brunch series that boasts food stations brimming with platters, pretzels and traditional hot dishes; sensational salad and dessert bars; and a two-hour drinks package to boot.
The inaugural Das Brunch is autumn-inspired and will be hosted at Munich Brauhaus in The Rocks, Sydney, South Wharf in Melbourne and South Bank in Brisbane on Sunday, 22 March, for two-hour sittings, from 11am to 2.30pm. At $65 a head, or $99 including a two-hour drinks package of Chandon, Chandon Rosé, house beer, wine and spirits, and $25 per child, it promises to be a smorgasbord of family-friendly, Sunday session-style revelry.
Each Das Brunch will be hosted on a Sunday and have a different theme, with the restaurant styled accordingly, food stations stocked appropriately and lots of fun and games: think gorgeous, big balloons, confetti canons and face painting for the kids.
The March autumn-themed event will see female waitstaff in dirndls and flower crowns,
autumn-coloured decorations and floral displays, and a breakfast – or brunch – of champions.
Menu highlights include a cold station of meat and cheese platters, assorted bread and fresh-baked pretzels and obazda – a traditional cheese spread. A hot selection includes traditional chicken schnitzel, roast pork belly with onion and sage stuffing, mixed vegetable frittata, classic sausages, käsespätzle – a variation of macaroni cheese, grilled bacon, hash browns, creamy mashed potato and sauerkraut.
A salad bar brims with garden salad of mesclun, cos, tomato, cucumber and red onions, Munich-style slaw and potato salad, alongside a collection of condiments and dressings, including crisp bacon, shaved Parmesan, German mustard, red wine vinaigrette, Caesar dressing and green chilli dressing.
Save room for a visit to the dessert bar, which is laden with fresh, haus-baked goodies, including apple strudel with crème Anglaise, cute gingerbread men, decadent black forest cake, blueberry cheesecake, pretty cupcakes, mixed fruit platter, and granola with yoghurt.
Culinary Director of Casual Brands Don Lama said Munich Brauhaus is renowned for its big Bavarian personality and generous hospitality and the monthly brunch series was a perfect representation of those dual traits.
“This is the ultimate Bavarian dining experience at a very affordable price,” Chef Don said. “Guests can explore traditional dishes like schnitzels, obazda, käsespätzle, sausages, strudel and our luscious black forest cake, they can try a little bit of everything, or go for the full all-you-can-eat experience.”
