Relocating to the Sunshine Coast is a dream come true for Andrea Moraes.

The 37-year old Queensland Area Manager for the Bavarians has longed to live in the relaxed, beach-strewn region since holidaying in the area two years ago.

“I came to the Sunshine Coast two years ago on holidays and absolutely fell in love with the place,” she says. “There’s a real sense of community, you can talk to anyone and everyone here. I knew I wanted to settle here, it was just the matter of time, and tearing myself away from a job I loved in Sydney.”

As luck would have it, Andrea’s employer Rockpool Dining Group decided this year to open its first restaurant on the Sunshine Coast: The Bavarian.

Andrea was already working as General Manager of El Camino Cantina in The Rocks, Sydney and had previously worked at another of the company’s Bavarian brands, The Bavarian Beerhaus, as a Supervisor.

When she was offered the chance to manage the latest addition to the Bavarian family, which boasts 400 seats in the new Riverwalk dining precinct at Sunshine Plaza, she jumped at the chance.

Andrea believes the sense of community in the Sunshine Coast is similar to that of her birthplace, Brazil, where she moved from to Sydney in 2008.

“I moved to Sydney to improve my English and graduated with an advanced diploma in English language from The Holmes Institute eight months later,” she says.

In 2009 Andrea found a job as a cook at a Brazilian BBQ restaurant in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney. There, her confidence in the hospitality industry grew and she quickly progressed through the company’s ranks to become the restaurant’s General Manager.

Rockpool Dining Group saw similar potential in its ambitious employee and thanks to its culture of promoting and supporting hard-working individuals with leadership potential, Andrea earned several promotions and a plum job on the Sunshine Coast.

“Working with the 450-seat El Camino Cantina team has been my biggest accomplishment with Rockpool Dining Group,” says Andrea. “I’ve seen it evolve and grow and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved.”

Andrea is thrilled to be a part of Rockpool Dining Group’s latest pipeline of Queensland openings.
