The Famous Christmas pizza giving the gift of shelter

Wednesday, 30 November 2016:

Fratelli Famous Pizzeria has added a limited-edition, black-crusted Christmas pizza to its menu for the duration of December to raise money for international disaster relief charity, ShelterBox.

From Thursday, 1 December, $1 from every large Famous Christmas pizza sold will be donated to ShelterBox, which provides temporary shelter and lifesaving supplies to displaced families, including those in Australia.

Created by Famous pizza chefs, the black-crusted Christmas pizza is spread with red sauce, sprinkled with Monterey Jack cheese, scattered with roast turkey breast, and dressed with caramelised whole shallots that have been roasted in the pizza oven, as well as green capsicum rings, and aromatic fresh rosemary.

These fast-fired pizzas cook to blistered perfection in under two minutes in dual wood and gas-fired ovens that are the centrepiece of each Fratelli Famous Pizzeria, and are topped off with a generous drizzle of cranberry BBQ sauce.
The subtle smokiness of the black crust, which is achieved with the incorporation of charcoal, enhances the sweetness of the BBQ sauce, the char of the shallots, and complements the flavoursome turkey and peppery cheese.

Rockpool Dining Group Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash said: “Helping to provide shelter for displaced families around the world, particularly as we head into bushfire and flood season in Australia, is immensely motivating and satisfying for the Famous team. I hope customers will be equally inspired to support this worthy cause.”

A ShelterBox typically include tents to withstand extreme weather conditions, a water purification kit, blankets, tools, and other necessities to help a family survive after a disaster. ShelterBox response teams distribute boxes on the ground, working closely with local organisations, international aid agencies and Rotary clubs worldwide.

ShelterBox Australia Chief Executive Officer Mike Greenslade said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Fratelli Famous to raise funds and awareness for disaster relief. As our name suggests, we are used to delivering quality goods in our iconic green boxes. Customers buying the Famous Christmas pizza can open their box in the knowledge that $1 from each sale will go towards helping a family in their greatest hour of need.”

“Many Australians will know through firsthand experience, natural disasters can strike anywhere, anytime, often without warning. Floods, bush fires and cyclones can destroy property and wreck lives in a matter of minutes. As we prepare for the bushfire season, disaster relief charity, ShelterBox Australia is continually preparing for all types of disasters around the world, whether it be a cyclone in Fiji, or an earthquake in Nepal.”

Customers can purchase a Christmas pizza at Fratelli Famous outlets at level 5, Westfield Sydney in the CBD and World Square shopping centre at 644 George Street, Sydney until Saturday, 31 December.

ShelterBox Australia will be at World Square shopping centre on Thursday, 1 December at 10.30 am to help launch the Famous Christmas pizza campaign. Members of the public can meet the team and learn more about its international disaster relief efforts.
ShelterBox is currently responding to disasters in Haiti, Ecuador, Cameroon, Niger, Iraq and Syria.
