The Bavarian brings legendary beers, Bavarian-Aussie menu to Rockhampton
Tuesday, 13 October 2020: Iconic restaurant The Bavarian is opening at Rockhampton on Monday, 9 November, with a fabulous indoors-outdoors design, 16 draught beers and a menu that offers something for everyone, all of which complement the family friendly, visitor enticing, sun-filled Central Queensland lifestyle.
Located at Rockhampton Stockland shopping centre, at the former Sizzler site, The Bavarian accommodates a total of 480 guests within a large, bright, indoor-outdoor layout that includes a spacious, curved beer garden that sweeps around the restaurant’s façade and accommodates 230 guests.
The Bavarian Rockhampton celebrates an easy-going, pop-in-any-time ambience, complemented by an all-day, Bavarian-Aussie menu, and a cellar full of fabulous beers. Guests can enjoy Bavarian-inspired elements, from cultural hints in the interior décor, to quintessential dishes and a large range of traditional, imported brews, which mix with casual Aussie elements, including 30 large-screen televisions for live sports, pub-style burgers, wings and pork ribs, healthy build-your-own salads, and a line-up of Australian craft beers.
The Bavarian Rockhampton will create around 50 full-time and casual positions. Led by an experienced team from The Bavarian fleet of restaurants, most employees will be locals. Applicants can apply here.
Rockpool Dining Group Chief Executive Officer Thomas Pash said The Bavarian has a substantial presence across Queensland – from Brisbane to Toowoomba, the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast, and Mackay.
“As the economic heart of Central Queensland with a robust economy, critical mass of residents, and reputation as a recreational hotspot, we have had our eye on Rockhampton for some time,” Mr Pash said.
“We believe our strong credentials as a locally-inspired dining destination, driven by strong neighbourhood values, a stellar line-up of beer and a menu of wholesome and hearty dishes will be a big hit in Rockhampton.”
The Bavarian Rockhampton is a prototype for the first ground-up, free-standing build for the popular Bavarian-inspired group, with design and build by SGB Group. New design elements for The Bavarian family include comfortable booth seating, smaller table formats, cushioned chairs, and smaller, cosier dining zones.
There are high stools for dining and beer-hopping at the bar; The Bavarian’s signature communal tables for families and squads of friends; quiet corners for couples; and a zone of high stooled tables looking over to a media wall of 12 large-screen TVs. Elsewhere, large-screen TVs are recessed into timber walls throughout the venue and positioned above the bar, offering an exciting schedule of live sports games.
Signature touches of Bavarian heritage are interspersed throughout the venue, including alpine stone walls and timber finishes and a custom-designed vintage beer barrel wall. Hanging baskets of cascading green plants and ivy garlands adorn the interior, adding a splash of colour.
A central feature of the restaurant is a large, square bar with counter-side seating available along two sides, and a magnificent beer stein chandelier holding over 500 traditional glass steins suspended overhead. At the front of the venue, solid timber drinking ledges with high stools are framed by large bi-fold windows which look out to the beer garden and flood the restaurant with natural light.
The diverse menu includes classic dishes such as The Bavarian’s legendary crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly, golden-crumbed schnitzels, plump German sausages and cute, looped pretzels served warm from the oven. Traditional savoury dishes are served with all the Bavarian trimmings, including sauerkraut, red cabbage, creamy mash, bier jus, and apple compote. A Best of Bavaria set menu incorporates many of these classic dishes into one indulgent feast.
The menu also has a contemporary spin with lighter bites such as pork bao buns, salt and pepper squid, and generous salads, including those that guests can create from a checklist of fabulous, fresh ingredients. A range of chicken wings are tossed in signature sauces and served in 10-piece to 100-piece portions. Pub-inspired burgers, that are stacked high with accompaniments and served with fries, sit on the menu alongside half and full racks of sticky Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce-doused ribs. Delivery is available via Uber Eats.
Complementing the big flavours are even bigger beers. The Bavarian’s steins can quench a thirst and there are an impressive 20 beers on tap, including seven imported German classics from Löwenbräu, Spaten, Franziskaner, Stiegl and Hofbräu. Australian craft beers complement these iconic, pure German brews.
