The Bavarian brings slice of Oktoberfest to Westfield Belconnen

Tuesday, 10 September 2019: Shoppers, diners and entertainment seekers will be on a hotdog high when The Bavarian opens its doors at Westfield Belconnen with 500 free hotdogs from 11am on Wednesday, 18 September.

The feasting and festivities are set to continue with The Bavarian Belconnen hosting an Oktoberfest launch weekend, on Saturday, 21 September and Sunday, 22 September, filled with games, challenges, set menus, competitions, prizes and official Oktoberfest beer.

Located in the dining precinct at Westfield Belconnen shopping centre, in the previous Lone Star Rib House site, The Bavarian Belconnen accommodates 250 guests. Forty five full-time and casual positions have been created.

Oktoberfest at The Bavarian Belconnen kicks off with an opening party on Saturday, 21 September from 11am, when the restaurant transformed will be transformed with multi-coloured decorations, streamers and balloons, and fun German music playing open until close.

Diners can also enjoy a fantastic selection traditional Bavarian dishes and celebratory menus throughout the day. A line-up of games and challenges will take place between 6pm and 8pm, including stein holding and yodelling. Diners are encouraged dress in their finest lederhosen or dirndl for the chance to win a $200 restaurant voucher, and the title the Best Dressed of Oktoberfest.

The Bavarian offers a little taste of Oktoberfest every day of the year. The menu spans classic Bavarian dishes, such as crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly, a range of classic German and gourmet sausages, shared platters, and an assortment of schnitzels. Lighter bites include chicken wings, spicy squid and build-your-own salads.

Also on the menu is a selection of fantastic sharing platters, including The Munich Brewer’s Platter ($72) which features a range of pork dishes, house made sausages, chicken schnitzel, sauerkraut, red cabbage, bier jus, mash potatoes and apple compote.

Diners can make the most of The Bavarian’s Royal Snack Hour, featuring complimentary, snacks, from 4pm to 6pm daily. Guests who purchase a selected drink can choose from sausage rolls, Texan sloppy fries and Cajun popcorn chicken.

Affordable dinner specials are a week-day winner: on Mondays it’s a chicken burger and drink of choice ($15), Tuesdays welcome a two-for-one deal on any regular schnitzel and every Wednesday guests can indulge in refillable All You Can Meat platters ($35 per person). A fantastic, $10 lunch menu is available from Monday to Thursday and every Sunday the focus is on families, with children under the age of 12 eating for free from the kids’ menu.

Complementing the big flavours are even bigger beers. There are an impressive 20 beers on tap, including imported favourites Löwenbräu, Franziskaner, Stiegl, Spaten and Hofbräu.

The Bavarian Belconnen will be pouring four famous Oktoberfest beers throughout Oktoberfest, from Saturday, 21 September to Sunday, 27 October: Hofbräu München Oktoberfestbier, Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier, Spaten Oktoberfestbier and Paulaner Oktoberfestbier, each of which have been imported from Bavaria. Pirate Life Fiestbier and 4 Pines Kellar Door Schwartzbier have been brewed exclusively for The Bavarian’s Oktoberfest celebrations.

The restaurant features the same fresh, modern look and feel as The Bavarian family, with bright motifs and artwork, complemented by rustic elements that reflect its Bavarian heritage, including stone walls, alpine timber finishes and large, communal wood tables.

Signature features include a custom-designed vintage beer barrel wall, bespoke signage and an impressive beer stein chandelier holding over 500 glass steins suspended above a timber bar.

Ivy garlands and planter boxes filled with lush greenery adorn the interior, adding a splash of colour and fresh feel, while bare brick walls add an urban edge.

An expansive open dining area features a large central bar, and long communal and high, beer barrel tables. There are also two timber drinking ledges positioned at the entrance of the restaurant, which feature high stool, window seating. Several large-screen TVs throughout the venue offer an exciting schedule of live sports games.

The Bavarian Belconnen is Rockpool Dining Group’s 30th Bavarian restaurant in Australia and second in the ACT.
